Annual Foundation Luncheon--October 22, 2012
The Annual ARCS Foundation Luncheon was held on October 22, 2012, and offered Seattle Chapter members and their guests the chance to come together to celebrate and support the work of ARCS Fellowship recipients.
ARCS Fellows conduct research that seeks solutions to some of our most critical present-day challenges in areas such as alternative energy, preservation of natural resources, vaccine development, disease prevention and treatment, and global warming. The luncheon featured presentations by ARCS Fellows summarizing their research findings and honored the generosity and stewardship of fellowship donors who enable this groundbreaking work.
In addition to celebrating Fellows and donors, the goal of the luncheon program is to inspire attendees to fund ARCS Foundation Fellowships.

Dear Friends,
Since 1978, the Seattle Chapter of ARCS Foundation has awarded graduate fellowships to outstanding United States citizens completing Ph.D. degrees in science, engineering and medical research at the University of Washington and Washington State University. Over $12.8 million has been contributed by the Seattle Chapter to talented students pursuing their dreams to solve the scientific challenges facing our world today. These monies have given our state's research universities a competitive edge as they recruit the nation's finest doctoral candidates to their premier programs.
Research conducted at the University of Washington and Washington State University will continue to have a significant impact locally, nationally and globally. ARCS scholars address compelling research topics, teach and mentor undergraduates, and also attract and energize world-class faculty. In today's increasingly competitive global economic climate, the startling evidence that U.S. world leadership in science and engineering is declining makes support of the ARCS Foundation mission crucial.
It is said that our economic future rests in ideas that incubate in our research institutions. These ideas will be generated by the best and the brightest young scientists. As we celebrate the 2012 ARCS Fellows, please consider partnering with us to sustain the vitality of our state's scientific presence by making an investment in the next class of outstanding doctoral candidates who will expand the frontiers of science. The return on your investment has great promise, both in scientific advances and economic development.
Sincerely,
JACQUE DOANE
President, Seattle Chapter
